Always keen to be involved with the curriculum, staff and pupils at Aboyne Academy , ARCADION were very pleased to be asked to be part of the judging panel for their 2014 Youth and Philianthropy Initiative.
The YPI programme is currently delivered in 110 Scottish secondary schools by the Wood Family Trust and is included in the school’s curriculum. Pupil teams research a local social service issue they feel passionate about and identify an appropriate local charity to work with. The group with the most discerning and impassioned argument wins £3000 for their chosen charity.
This year’s winning team, including Alex Towns and Archie Flynn, chose Horseback UK as their charity and delivered a comprehensive, clear and passionate presentation covering the social service provided by the charity and explaining the impact of using horses to aid the rehabilitation of ex-serviceman injured in the course of duty.
Lisa Cormack, ARCADION’s Business Co-ordinator, helped judge the event and was very impressed with all 7 finalists. “It’s a shame there can be only one winning team as they were all very deserving and I am always impressed with the content and professionalism with which the S2 pupils deliver their presentations. This is my second YPI judging experience at Aboyne Academy and it is a pleasure to attend and see how well the pupils conduct themselves and represent their chosen charities”.
