ARCADION designs “hotel-quality” quarters for BP’s Glen Lyon
December 04, 2013ARCADION is close to completion of a major project for BP’s Glen Lyon FPSO, due to be deployed to the Schiehallion/Lyon Field in the North Sea. ARCADION has worked closely with Sam Thompson, the naval architect on the project, and Hyundai Heavy Industries’ (HHI) architecture department to design top quality living quarters for the 125 personnel who will live and work on the FPSO during normal operational periods. The flagship vessel is being built by HHI in Ulsan, South Korea.
Commenting on the quality and care taken with the Glen Lyon LQ build, Thompson said, “We have had a full-scale mock-up of the onboard cabin accommodation and facilities, and have carried out three reviews during the design development. In designing the LQ facilities for the FPSO, we have looked to provide a ‘hotel-quality’ living environment. All core crew will have single cabins with TVs and music facilities. Recreational areas are bright and open, with a clear separation between working and living spaces.”
ARCADION’s Aberdeen-based Technical Director, Clive Gregory has been pleased by the progress of the project which saw the team provide interior design services for the entire accommodation. “We are dedicated to making offshore living more comfortable and efficient, and we are delighted at the success of this project which builds on our reputation for innovation, excellence and integrity”.
The Glen Lyon FPSO is due to be installed on Schiehallion in early 2015.

ARCADION joins all the festive fun of the fare at Aboyne fundraiser
December 04, 2013ARCADION helped to fuel the festive spirit at the Aboyne Academy Christmas Fair on Saturday 30th November, with the help of eight pupils from the Academy who prepared, cooked and served a delicious spread for hungry shoppers in a bid to raise funds for the school.
Three boys and five girls joined a team from ARCADION as well as Aramark top chef, Russell Mahoney to prepare and serve plates of primavera pasta and more than 250 venison burgers. The students themselves cooked a warming tomato and roast pepper soup which was extremely popular. For some of the students this wasn’t their first time on the ARCADION events kitchen. Many had also attended the company’s stand at last September’s Offshore Europe Exhibition in Aberdeen.
The fundraising effort, which asked those enjoying the fare to make a donation to the school, raised just under £320. All of the food was provided free of charge by ARCADION. Speaking at the event was Clive Gregory, ARCADION Technical Director who said, “It’s great to see so many people out enjoying themselves, and we’re delighted to be part of this event. I am very impressed by the hard work and the team effort the students have put in to help make today such a success.”
ARCADION works closely with pupils and staff at Aboyne Academy through its Partnership Charter which enables ARCADION to provide ongoing support to the Academy in the delivery of the Curriculum for Excellence by developing a programme of Awards for distinction in the fields of Design and Technology, Business Management, and Environmental Awareness amongst others. In addition, ARCADION provides support relevant to professional career development for all pupils throughout the Academy as they progress through their education.
